(TRENTON) - Acting Governor Richard J. Codey on Tuesday, March 29, will announce that TOPOFF 3, a full-scale, national terrorism response exercise, will take place April 4-8.

Representatives of the Department of Homeland Security; State Attorney General Peter C. Harvey and State Health and Senior Services Commissioner Fred M. Jacobs, M.D., J.D.; and representatives of other state and local organizations, will be joining Codey at Tuesday's press conference. The announcement will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 29, in the Governor's Outer Office in the State House.

TOPOFF 3 will be the most comprehensive terrorism response exercise ever conducted in the United States. It will involve New Jersey and Connecticut, the United Kingdom and Canada, and more than 10,000 participants representing more than 200 Federal, State, local, tribal, private sector, and international agencies and organizations and volunteer groups. Every New Jersey county and acute care hospital in the state will be involved in the response. TOPOFF 3 is the culmination of a two-year cycle of seminars, planning events, and exercises.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness, TOPOFF 3 is the third in the Congressionally mandated TOPOFF Exercise Series. As part of the exercise, New Jersey will be the site of a simulated bioterrorism incident.
